The Channel is a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) and is actively involved in business practices that are designed to minimise our impact on the local environment and indeed the wider environment. We also endeavour to constantly review all of our activities with the intention of further reducing the impacts our business practices may have to ensure whatever we do is sympathetic to the environment.
Activities and measures we already carry out :
• We recycle all waste including that produced by guests with the intention of minimising waste to landfill.
• All of our used cooking oil is saved and then collected by a local recycling company, and is then turned into Bio-Diesel for use with their own machinery.
• All standard high energy tungsten light bulbs have been replaced by low energy equivelents.
• Where new light fittings are purchased we try to replace with LED lights or other low energy alternatives.
• Water saving devices have been fitted in all toilet cisterns (including guest rooms).
• All cleaning materials have been switched to ECO-Friendly equivelents such as ECOVER.
• We have recently changed washing machines, fridges and freezers to new A rated energy efficient replacements.
• Thermostat on central heating lowered to reduce wasted energy.
• Individual room heating switched off when rooms not in use to save energy.
• All electrical equipment turned off rather than switched to standby when not in use and signs in guest rooms, to ask guests to do likewise.
• Signs in rooms ask guests to re-use towels wherever possible rather than request replacements every day.
Recent additions to our ongoing green activities

All compostable waste now collected by the local authority and taken to a community composting facility
New “Responsible Visitor Charter” introduced to help get guests actively involved in our green practices.
